Indian Muslims and Misra Commission - 2007/10/23 09:02
Assalam Alaikum Rahmatullahi O Barakatuhu
Justice Raganath Misra Commission was set up by government of India under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952 on 15th March 2005 to Inquiry the problems of Linguistic and Religious minorities with a mandate to recommend necessary remedial measures. The commission submitted its report on 21st May.
Unlike the most debated ‘Sachar Committee report’, this Commission has clear terms of reference to address the Issues of Minorities. It was reported in media that the Commission has identified the fundamental lacuna in some of the legal instruments and recommended correction to address the issue along with other things. As per the act, the government has a moral binding to submit the report along with ‘Action taken Report’ in the ‘House’ within a stipulated timeframe. The government so-far not tabulated the said report.
The Online petition is demanding to table the report in Parliament. The media coverage on the report says that it proposing remedial measures for Educational, Economic, Social and Historical backwardness of Minorities. It also suggested revoking the discriminatory section of Article 341.
