Growing up in Hyderabad it was a dream to be able to study in United States. Most of my classmates thought the same that it would be nice to go to the U.S.A. but it is not always play, play in the United States you would need constant slogging and cannot take it easy, plus you will be homesick the first one year. I remember the time when I landed in Detroit it was chilly cold and snowing outside. The snow looked good for the first few days when everything around you is white but later on you start hating the look of snow. Then there is a question of attending University. You have to meet your advisor and get decided on which classes you are taking and try to convince him to transfer all your credits from Hyderabad. After the easy part is done start thinking of getting the tution money since you are not getting any money from home and the tution is due beginning of every semester. Well.... easy solution start working in Gas Stations or get a taxi badge the later of which is very lucrative. There is one drawback though, when you are studying and working your grades might go down... so you have to worry about that too. Your friends and family are constant source of inspiration. You are constantly glued to the phone talking every evening and if you have a fiance at home then forget it all your saving are done with in phone bills. Your everday friends at your University are going through the same phase and if you have been lucky to be studying in Wayne State, then there is no shortage of Hyderabadi students and it is just like home.. tea and cigrattes every day. If you manage to squeeze through your masters then starts a new chapter. If you are in IT like I am you need to start worrying about securing a job and spicing up your resume. Spicing up a resume is quite common among desis they will spice it up Resume times 5. So if you have 1 year of actual experience then your resume will say 5 years of incredible experience. Okay eventually you land a job with a multinational.. now comes the time to get married and gain some weight........ to be continued
