After more than three we-eks of high drama, the city police on Thursday arrested Bangladeshi national Rizwan Ghazi and produced him before the 12th additional chief metropolitan magistrate court at Nampally on Friday. Rizwan reportedly admitted to the police that he was a member of the Harkat-ul-Jihadi-Islami (HuJI), the organisation suspected to be behind the August 25 twin blasts.

In his confession to the police, he reportedly said that he acted on the instructions of Musliuddin, an alleged HuJI activist, and his former roommate, who is absconding since the twin blasts. He reportedly confessed that they acquired petrol to manufacture petrol bombs. The police started suspecting Rizwan as he had features resembling that of the person in the sketch of the August 25 bomber.

Police told the court that Rizwan had forged documents to procure official clearance from the government of India with an intention to settle here, to propagate jihadi ideology using terrorist methods and instigate Muslim youth to wage war against India. The court remanded Rizwan to judicial custody till October 5. The Special Investigation team officials slapped cases against him for cheating, forgery, conspiring to commit offences against the State and waging war against a friendly country. Rizwan who spoke to the press claimed that he was innocent and had nothing to do with the twin blasts.
